One of the most common questions we are asked, is “can I afford a lawyer to defend me?” At the Murtha Law Group, we believe in affordability and transparency, and modern methods for modern times. Unlike other lawyers, we don’t charge you by the hour, or slip in court costs and filing fees on top of our billing, which can be far more costly than you might anticipate.
We cap our fees, expenses and charges, so you know exactly how much you will pay for your debt collection lawsuit defense. It’s simple. This is how it works:
District Court, Nassau & Suffolk County
One-time, flat rate: $1,500
Supreme Court, Nassau & Suffolk County
One-time, flat rate: $2,500
Regardless of the amount of your debt, the time it takes to resolve your case, or the number of court appearances, hearings, motions, or trials our attorneys will have to defend you through, our one-time flat rate covers your representation, court filing fees and process server fees throughout it all. No matter how many hours we spend working on your case defending you, the amount you owe for your legal defense will be capped at your one-time, flat rate payment for the remainder of your case.
Most debt collection lawsuits take 6 months to two years to litigate to conclusion, depending on the complexity of the issues. This could involve drafting an answer and an order to show cause, drafting, reviewing and responding to various discovery demands, reviewing documents, filing and responding to Notices to Admit, requesting and conducting Traverse Hearings, attending arbitration hearings, attending regular court conferences, conducting depositions, preparing for trial, and conducting a trial through conclusion (cross-examining witnesses, summations, objections, requesting relief – and no, you most likely do not have to be present at trial if you don’t want to). Under a traditional lawyer hourly billing arrangement, you would have to pay TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS in legal fees for your defense.
Our low one-time fee is all-inclusive. Motions, court fees, process server fees, postage, appearances, trials….we are by your side, providing you with legal representation throughout all of it, no matter how complicated your case may become.Have a Question? Leave a Comment Below.
